MOA Hosts Leadership Retreat

The MOA Leadership Retreat was held June 4 -5 at the Country Club Hotel at the Lake of the Ozarks. We tried a little bit different format this year, and it seemed to work well for the board and committee members.

The MOA Board began its meeting Friday morning and heard from Representative Steve Tilley, the future Speaker of the Missouri House of Representatives, regarding the outcome of the legislative session.

The Industry Alliance Executive Level members met with the board and the Affiliate Services Committee for a late breakfast. Executive Level members are Duffens Optical, Hoya Vision Care, Midland Optical, Ozarks Optical Laboratories, Inc., and Sutherlin Optical. Convention activities and the advent of online eyeglass ordering were discussed.

The afternoon was filled with golf for the ODs and Alliance members. Thanks to Tom Cullinane, OD, for yet another successful golf outing!

The committee members arrived at the lake on Friday evening to join everyone for a delicious BBQ supper. We received more comments about the food this year since we took a year off from the BBQ. Yes it will be back next year!

Saturday morning began with the featured speaker Steve Hughes addressing the attendees about communication...a great lecture which involved audience participation held everyone's attention, even if it was eight o'clock in the morning!

The committees got down to work later that morning and were able to plot the course for the MOA in 2011. As we approach the end of Dr. Ryan Powell's tenure as president, we will be looking for some new committee members. Anyone interested in serving on a committee in 2011 should contact the central office. We would love to see some new faces at the next Leadership Retreat.
