Continuing Education Session at the Legislative Conference
The MOA 2008 Legislative Conference kicked off with breakfast at the Governor's Mansion. Deborah Scott, Director of the Department of Social Services, discussed the Medicaid and Insure Missouri programs, specifically how optometry is affected.

Following breakfast, more than 150 MOA members congregated at the Capitol Plaza Hotel for three hours of continuing education entitled, "Understanding the New Medicare Guidelines," presented by John McGreal, Jr., O.D. Speaker of the House Rod Jetton gave the noonday address, followed by a panel discussion on the Implementation of the Children's Vision Law. Dr. Mark Curtis gave a PowerPoint® presentation on the implementation of the children's vision law, which is designed to be used by optometrists when meeting with local school superintendents, nurses and teachers. Panel members included Representative David Pearce, Representative Terry Swinger, MOA Governmental Consultants Jerry Burch and Scott Marrs, Virginia Beatty with the Department of Health and Senior Services, Marjorie Cole, RN, State School Nurse Consultant and Kerrie Dozier, Director, Boards and Commissions, Department of Health and Senior Services.

House Minority Floor Leader Paul LeVota and House Majority Floor Leader, Steve Tilley presented the latest capitol information before everyone headed off to the Capitol for the now famous "cinnamon roll" delivery. MOA members had the opportunity to watch Dr. Ryan Powell receive the Infantseeā„¢ resolution in the Senate.

The evening culminated with more than 200 MOA members and elected officials attending the Legislative Reception. Everyone present had the opportunity to discuss issues important to the professional of optometry.
